Michal originally focused on econometrics, where he gained an MA degree at the University of Economics in Prague. Subsequently, he completed the T. G. Masaryk fellowship at the London School of Economics (1990-91). He later became professor of banking and finance at Charles University in Prague. He also founded and chaired the Institute of Economic Studies at Charles University, a prestigious Czech economic think tank (1993-2010). He had frequently publishes abroad.
Since 1991, he has been the Chairman of the Board of the advisory company EEIP a.s., which pursues its activities in the area of M&A, restructuring and strategies. EEIP has been involved in more than 80 M&A and company restructuring deals in CEE, including very prominent ones, such as the acquisition and restructuring of the Czech gas sector by RWE). Michal was also involved in a number of World Bank and EU consultancy assignments for corporations and governments worldwide. He also held the position of the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Czech Airlines (CSA 2009-2011) and the founding Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Czech Aeroholding, a.s. (2011-2014). From 2013 to 2014, he was also member of the Supervisory Board of the largest central European utility company, ČEZ, a.s. etc.
Since 2011 he acts as the founding chairman of the Board of the Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA), independent expert watchdog focusing on new legislation, protecting interests of business. Between 2009 and 2013, he served as a member of National Economic Council of Czech Government (NERV), where we was responsible for competitiveness and foreign trade. His other positions included the position of the Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce, ICC Czech republic for 2011-2014, member of the ICC global economic policy expert group and others.
Otakar graduated from the Charles University of Prague – faculty of science with Mgr. (Master of Science) Degree. He is a Member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) EMPLOYMENT.
Otakar undertook a wide range of responsibilities on projects in the Czech Republic (and across Central & Eastern Europe) including asset and investment management, leasing, development, acquisition and sale. He has managed for ING REIM and GERE investments into developments and standing projects across the region. For more than 15 years Otakar has been a leader of various teams. The equity volume in projects under his management has been in excess of 700 MM EUR.
